Two posts at once?!?!

I know-- it's a shock.... but it's a holiday

The main networking, blogging, and personal-world-on-the-net is Cyworld (similar to Facebook, MySpace, etc.) Now that they have an English version for the interface, I've jumped on the bandwagon =)

Though I'm not completely killing this blog, my Cyworld page will probably receive most of my random quick thoughts and the picture uploading is more smooth there, so I'll keep albums on that site more.

If you want to take a look, you can see it here: http://us.cyworld.com/giznew/

Happy New Year... Again!

It's
Lunar New Year time again. January 1 is the new start on the solar
calendar, but if you take the moon into consideration, there's a whole
new holiday ^^

In Korea (and most of Asia) the Lunar New Year celebration is an even bigger deal with almost a week of family celebrations!
This year we mark the transition from the year of the dog to the year of the rat!
ENJOY!!!
We
have 3 days off school and all my Korean friends are off work-- many of
them travel back to their home towns to celebrate with their families,
but others live near their parents, so they are only tied up for parts
of the week and we get to play together the rest of the time!

Everywhere you go during this holiday time, children and adults are dressed in traditional hanbok costume,

people are carrying gift boxes tied up in large pieces of cloth (making ingenious and simple handles for packages that are bulky and awkward)
And
traffic is horrendous with people flooding into town and out of town to
pay homage to elder relatives and enjoy copious amounts of food with
all members of their family from near and far.

Of course, unless
family members have left the peninsula, no one is very far away by
American or Canadian standards. A 10-12 hour drive (in non-holiday
traffic conditions) will take you from the northernmost area (where I
live) to the southern tip of the country-- in the U.S. you could drive
the same area and never leave one state!

So, the rest of the week holds great plans for goofing off with my friends, a pancake breakfast party at my house,

a wedding for a couple of our English Ministry groupies
and scrub my hard drive ~
the poor computer is dropping drivers like crazy and even the big RAM
is getting bogged down with too much gunk in the works... time to give
it a fresh start with the new year.
